Les Langues Paternelles

While visiting Futuroscope with his three children, David finds out that his father has died. A great relief: his father was unbearable, eccentric and funny, absent yet invasive, full of both love and faults...

With this adaptation of the eponymous novel by David Serge (aka Daniel Schneidermann), director Antoine Laubin shows how much he likes a well-written narrative and his willingness to question the stage on the basis of textual material. A tangible rapport whose significance (here, the issue of the father and transmission) unfolds with intelligence through a formal and poetic research where, in particular, the text, like a partition, is worked as much for its words as its rhythms and sounds.
